Back on the Farm.....

Update on the crop progress here on the farm and things look good - a bit behind due to the late planting season but given some timely rains and heat, I believe we'll have a harvest!  Our plan is to focus primarily on one field each of corn and soybeans so you can see the growth from planting to harvest.  We will be all over the farm visiting different fields throughout the year but it's fun to watch one field at each stage of the growing year.

This is the soybean field that we will be watching throughout this growing season.
"Oh beautiful growing soybeans plants"

The "chosen" corn field we will be checking on throughout the season.
Corn at just a few leaves stage.
("Sorry corn but you don't look as pretty as your soybean friends").

As you can see from the photos, there is a bit of refuse left from last year's crop.  We don't completely follow no-till options (planting directly into a field that was harvested in the previous year without any type of tillage work).  We work our fields once before planting to disturb as little of the soil as possible and leave less of a carbon footprint.
