I am grateful for MANY things and have been VERY blessed to be living the life I imagined! I set out on a mission to find out how people celebrate this special time in anticipation of Christmas. There are literally thousands of ways people give of their time and gifts. My favorite ones were the homemade variety. <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I7rbfGyz7hQ/VH4TLXAr9_I/AAAAAAAABW4/EDC8u3DaKzc/s1600/advent%2Bblessing%2Bjar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I7rbfGyz7hQ/VH4TLXAr9_I/AAAAAAAABW4/EDC8u3DaKzc/s1600/advent%2Bblessing%2Bjar.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
An advent blessing jar from <a href="http://www.thirtyhandmadedays.com/2014/11/advent-blessing-jar/" target="_blank">Vermillion Rules</a> is a great way to include the whole family. I also love the random acts of Christmas kindness advent calendar by <a href="http://www.coffeecupsandcrayons.com/random-acts-christmas-kindness-printable-advent-calendar/" target="_blank">Coffee Cups and Crayons</a>. <br />
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The 1st Tuesday in December has been chosen as "Giving Tuesday"- a global day dedicated to giving back. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oOLTFX0v_9s/VH4TzGj08fI/AAAAAAAABXA/nlec9TYGajg/s1600/images.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oOLTFX0v_9s/VH4TzGj08fI/AAAAAAAABXA/nlec9TYGajg/s1600/images.jpg" height="223" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The idea that<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"> </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">charities, families, businesses, community centers and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to honor generosity and to give - well, that is truly awesome! So, from global day, an idea has sprung forth to create an advent type - 24 days of giving and to extend it over 12 months. Each month to have two giving days. January 2015 will be the start of my "24 Gifts". Who, what and why am I giving? I am working on a list of 12 different giving activities and will share them with Douglas and Grant counties in Minnesota. ( I live in Douglas, but grew up in Grant!) The list so far includes: Food shelf, Humane Society, Thrift Store, Library, Sheriff's Dept., and Social Services. As you can see I need a half dozen more, but that will come as I visit with people/organizations who have charitable needs. The what I'm giving will consist of food to the food shelf, animal treats to the Humane Society, new books to the library, etc. The why is my gratitude of what I've been given in my life and a pay it forward attitude! </span></span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
At the start of 2015, I will pick a Who and Oh Happy Day it will be as I share with you what gifts they will receive- maybe you'd like to be a part of the giving of "24 Gifts" too, the more the merrier! </div>
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>

Enjoy this special season of sharing and to quote Winston Churchill -"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give". </div>

It's a winter day here in west central Minnesota and we're all snuggled in doing one of our favorite things.....stamping! A question we get a lot is, "I want to make cards and have fun stamping, but where do I start and what do I need?" Stampin' Up has a ton, and I mean TON! of great products but it can be overwhelming for someone who is just getting started. So....we've put together a bundle of products that we fondly call our "Getting Started Bundle". This bundle comes with a pack of 40 sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" whisper white card stock, pack of 20 brights paper sheets 8 1/2" x 11": two of each color card stock, black ink pad, adhesive, pack of 40 whisper white envelopes and the Petite Pairs stamp set in wood which includes 9 different phrases. This bundle sells for $75 which includes shipping and tax. As a special offer we'd like to give you this<u> FREE gift with purchase bonus</u> of the 12" x 12" Sweet Taffy Designer Series paper pack with 12 sheets: 2 each of 6 double sided designs. This is a great way to get started in your card and paper crafting projects<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Getting Started Bundle</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
We made up the 9 different phrases from the Petite Pairs stamp set along with the papers from the bundle to give you an idea of how simple, very simple, you can be in creating cards with just these products. No fancy shamncy, just do it! Of course, there would be nothing wrong in creating a bit more glam to each card, but we wanted to give you the basics and how it takes no time at all to create some fun meaningful cards to give to special people and have them ready whenever you need them!<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">9 different VERY simple cards using the Petite Pairs Stamp Set included in the Bundle</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The Petite Pairs Stamp Set comes with phrases for baby, wedding, sympathy, birthday, thinking of you, holiday, thank you, get well and just because, so you have everything you need to create cards for any occasion. Plus you will have enough card stock and designer paper to make dozens and dozens!<br />

Now don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against social media and the instant messaging and the sharing of information, in fact I'm all for it because I am a bit of an impatient person, but I do believe in the power of the handwritten word that I'm afraid will disappear. I believe, I'm on what I would call, a revival of the handwritten and handcrafted word!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Several months ago, I signed up to be a demonstrator for Stampin' Up. I did this to appease my inner self's desire to get back to paper crafting and I'm always up for saving money, so why not get the demonstrator discount and get my craft groove back?! I've been having a wonderful time catching up on my scrap booking and creating cards for occasions. But some part of this "revival" was missing and I realized it was that I wanted to send cards or notes for "just because" reasons, not only for "an occasion". There are many things to send cards for that I think, would make someone's day so that is what I'm doing, creating cards to give a smile to that someone who would receive a "just because" card and having a fun time with my love of paper crafts!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you would indulge me, I will be sharing such cards each week through our Kaelly Studio blog before I send them in the mail. I'm hoping that they inspire you to want to send some cards too! Maybe you'll get so excited to be a part of this revival, that you'll also decide to join Stampin' Up for the same reasons that I did. The more the merrier and more smiles will be made! This week, I'm sharing a few cards that I'm sending out for various "just becauses". One for my upline in Stampin' Up, who recently attended convention and was rewarded for her desire to send cards and give smiles! (a WOW! double blessing!, being recognized for something you love to do...umm...sweet!)<br />

Another for a good friend who is battling cancer and will start chemo this week. I know sending her good thoughts is what I can do right now to tell her that she's not fighting alone!</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
My "revival" won't always be for "just because" reasons. I will still create cards for occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and even sharing my sorrow with a grieving family. </div>
<div>

<br /></div>
<div>
It is very enjoyable to create a card and write a touching sentiment or even just a simple "hi"! to let someone know you care and that there is a smile on the other end!</div>
<div>
<br />
<br />
P.S. Want to make these cards too? I'm hosting a "Treat and Eat" party at my house on Tuesday, July 29th at 6:30 pm. Let's eat some goodies and create these three cards as a treat from me to you. This will be very casual, flipflop attire -( remember it is summer "finally" after all!) A get together time to chat and have some fun being crafty!! Please RSVP to me at rjsatterlie@gctel.net or pm me on facebook by July 28th so I can get everything ready for you. <br />

My A.S.K. (standing for Acts of Sincere Kindness) teammates and my family were a part of a very emotional and uplifting experience at our local American Cancer Society Relay for Life event in Alexandria, MN. We are a small team but we make a difference! We all joined this team for various reasons, my family joined because we lost our Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa to this horrible disease and the suffering must stop and a cure will be found!<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Our granddaughter Parker looking up to Great-Grandpa!!</td></tr>

People who have had or have cancer wear purple shirts to represent that they are survivors. There were MANY people wearing purple. Even though we don't want anyone to be wearing purple, the part that is uplifting and joyful is that they are wearing the shirts!! They have survived, they are here with us! I'm not sure if there were more people in the crowd from last year wearing purple, but I'm gonna go with the fact that they are more people who are surviving!!! So take that cancer, we will win!!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hundreds of people ready to FINISH THE FIGHT!</td></tr>

The event was well planned and in a new location which worked quite nicely! The evening started on a grateful tone as the American flag is saluted and praised. (Our daughter, Katie sang the "Star Spangled Banner" - yes, a proud moment!)<br />

<br />
<br />
Each year several cancer survivors are chosen as honorees to share their stories. This year a caregiver was also chosen as no one has to fight alone! The survivors in their sea of purple, the caregivers, the teams are all recognized and walk around the track! Many people walk all night long to signify that cancer can take days, weeks, months, years or lives.... so we can walk a mere 12 hours to raise money to beat this disease!!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">TEAM A.S.K.!! Go team!!</td></tr>

Many of the teams had booths set up to play games and sell fun things to raise money. The kids had a blast playing the games, especially at our booth where for a $1 you had the chance to hit "crabby" Jeremy (he really isn't crabby- he's actually one of the nicest people you'd ever meet!) or any other team member for that matter with water balloons. It was hit! (literally!) The evening was very warm so the water was quite refreshing. Okay, confession time, I don't know that first hand as I wasn't a target, but I could see from the others who were, that they were actually enjoying it!<br />

I'm hearing... "what?"...well, it was a cattle yard a couple of decades ago. Yes, we really did have cattle in this area. The cows, the bunk and the silos are gone, but the shed in the background is the "chapel" that served as the site for Danielle and Aaron's wedding!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RSv8pntTLZ4/U6W9-MqksAI/AAAAAAAABQo/tAful5RGBgw/s1600/Cattle+yard.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RSv8pntTLZ4/U6W9-MqksAI/AAAAAAAABQo/tAful5RGBgw/s1600/Cattle+yard.jpeg" height="323" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
It is really a pretty place in our yard and was quite beautiful for an outdoor wedding spot! Danielle and Aaron had intended to use the corn field as a backdrop for their wedding but the corn was only a few inches high so it was decided that it wouldn't have made the cut for nice wedding pictures. I'm sure that Great Grandpa and Grandma Satterlie (who lived here first) would have never thought that one day a wedding would take place in the yard, especially where the cattle use to hang out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X97YwnszMmM/U6W-KyZTsgI/AAAAAAAABQw/-kSHOZ3IReU/s1600/Wedding+Site.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X97YwnszMmM/U6W-KyZTsgI/AAAAAAAABQw/-kSHOZ3IReU/s1600/Wedding+Site.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once again, pinterest reigned and great ideas were formed about how to create a wedding place. I remembered that I had two crocks (from the quilt shop days) that would work perfect to hold pots of flowers. Randy had fashioned some shepherd hooks from re bar metal and they became a wonderful hanger for some gorgeous hanging baskets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XzQswOLLopw/U6XBQ3c6kBI/AAAAAAAABRo/nA5uYBNkdwo/s1600/Wedding+171.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XzQswOLLopw/U6XBQ3c6kBI/AAAAAAAABRo/nA5uYBNkdwo/s1600/Wedding+171.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7Um9fvBo5iQ/U6W_ld5Bk7I/AAAAAAAABRM/A3VQe68kAzI/s1600/Wedding+176.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7Um9fvBo5iQ/U6W_ld5Bk7I/AAAAAAAABRM/A3VQe68kAzI/s1600/Wedding+176.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
An aisle or should we say, path was inviting with hooks holding hanging canning jars filled with fresh flowers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ihevsWFxqig/U6W_loVDlAI/AAAAAAAABRQ/gS53wqAcH8I/s1600/Wedding+172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ihevsWFxqig/U6W_loVDlAI/AAAAAAAABRQ/gS53wqAcH8I/s1600/Wedding+172.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
Danielle and Aaron love camping and campfires so they wished to use logs in their wedding decor. We scavenged some from Grandpa Kay. Grandma Judy designed more canning jars filled with baby's breath that were placed on the logs to soften and add a bit of romance to the day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kCtdkDs-8FQ/U6W_dOAjO7I/AAAAAAAABRA/TSiUBQDK2eU/s1600/Wedding+182.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kCtdkDs-8FQ/U6W_dOAjO7I/AAAAAAAABRA/TSiUBQDK2eU/s1600/Wedding+182.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
Besides the shed (chapel), the other oldest building in our yard is the chicken coop. Yes, it also used to house chickens and even after we bought the farm from Randy's grandparents, we continued to have laying hens and sell eggs. Gratefully, the shed is now used as a catch all and no more chickens live in it or ever will again...don't ask...HAHA! (and I'm really not joking - I love eating chicken and eggs, end of story on that!)<br />
Sorry, had to vent a minute......the chicken coop made a really great place to write with chalk and in fact as I write this today, it's still there (even after all the rain we've had!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OUAZVyHU3F0/U6W_4uhihPI/AAAAAAAABRg/98K3nHiIVOM/s1600/Wedding+187.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OUAZVyHU3F0/U6W_4uhihPI/AAAAAAAABRg/98K3nHiIVOM/s1600/Wedding+187.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One thing that I really wanted for the "kids" wedding were signs that made a love story. Of course I had seen the idea on "you know where" and the fact that Danielle loves to read (an understatement), it was appropriate to create that for her wedding. I found some old boards in a shed. I wrote in paint marker "Once...upon a time....two people....fell in love....and happiness....ever after.....starts here!" Randy screwed them crookedly (on purpose) to stakes and we placed them down our driveway! Yep, maybe a little redneck, but we loved it!<br />
<br />

<br />
We have enjoyed all the comments we've received from "The Wedding" Part One. Several of you have suggested that we start a business. First of all, we appreciate the very kind words, but no way is that going to be happening. We'd love to give people ideas, hence this blog, but we were our own bridezilla, mom and her sisters...hee-hee! No really, we all worked great together. Once in awhile, we'd have a "arrh" moment but what mom and sisters don't - right? It was truly a wonderful experience. Secondly, no one could afford us, because the moments we spent together were priceless and how do you place a value on that?<br />
<br />
We look forward to sharing "The Wedding" - Part Three. The actual day and event itself, once the photographers have worked their magic on the hundreds of pictures they took. We found a fun online site to place photos, words and music together to create a slide show and God willing, we'll set that up and blog away! Till we chat again....<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Hello, Hello!! It's been a crazy few weeks around here as we were finally able to finish our farm planting and start sprucing up the place to get ready for our daughter's wedding. A year of planning and in one day it's over!! But WOW, what an awesome day! We are thrilled to add another son-in-law to our family! Please oblige and enjoy with us as we share Part One of "The Wedding"!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6pttLiMa2_k/U6BdswYcjDI/AAAAAAAABOg/Nq6I1l7iP7g/s1600/Wedding+088.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6pttLiMa2_k/U6BdswYcjDI/AAAAAAAABOg/Nq6I1l7iP7g/s1600/Wedding+088.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Our farm shop became the reception hall. The walls are quite high so to keep the echoing at a minimum, we purchased some parachutes from our neighbors, the Martin's - (thanks guys!) and put them up using several hands, a forklift and a lift (that we borrowed from Anderson Electric - thanks Tyler! - by the way we still owe you?!) and we had a parachute ceiling. Cool, I say!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o0BgvDnidW8/U6BdcSREXjI/AAAAAAAABOc/5R7CiEcn-Ss/s1600/Wedding+100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o0BgvDnidW8/U6BdcSREXjI/AAAAAAAABOc/5R7CiEcn-Ss/s1600/Wedding+100.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The tables, chairs, linens and backdrops arrived in a rain storm (thankful for a large shop door!). The guys from Geyer Rental (you rock!) had everything we requested and unloaded in record time and off we were to decorate and turn a farm shop into a wedding venue that the newlyweds-to-be had envisioned. <br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">

Danielle (the bride,) her sisters and I spent different times throughout the past year working on decorations for the reception. It was fun to be crafting together and the results were fabulous!<br />
<br />
We have to admit that Pinterest played a big part of the idea process, actually too many ideas. We all had boards for the wedding, but it was neat to know that we had many of the same things "pinned' to our boards. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0gbhBDfs2uo/U6Bjaqt4pHI/AAAAAAAABPI/zThPTOXQs5o/s1600/Table+Decoration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0gbhBDfs2uo/U6Bjaqt4pHI/AAAAAAAABPI/zThPTOXQs5o/s1600/Table+Decoration.jpg" height="640" width="620" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Table Centerpieces</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_M97dPbmSEQ/U6BjptUaINI/AAAAAAAABPQ/meogCB-0Z30/s1600/Ladder.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_M97dPbmSEQ/U6BjptUaINI/AAAAAAAABPQ/meogCB-0Z30/s1600/Ladder.jpg" height="640" width="286" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
An old ladder that we found in the garage served as a great place to display photos of Danielle and Aaron. The crocheted doilies that were made by Danielle's great-grandma Sarah many years ago, found a special place as well and added that family personal touch!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z72NJAj-bj4/U6BkbD6ZKBI/AAAAAAAABPc/PC1ctkJf-Ck/s1600/Recception+Sign.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z72NJAj-bj4/U6BkbD6ZKBI/AAAAAAAABPc/PC1ctkJf-Ck/s1600/Recception+Sign.jpg" height="640" width="574" /></a></div>
<br />
We loved taking some old bulletin boards and a display board and turning them into chalkboards. Note: Buy yourself some chalkboard paint and just paint away. The paint will soak into a bulletin board, so you'll have to do a couple of coats, but it works so cool!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Godmother/Aunt Deb created the awesome old window decoration that was used for a bridal shower and we borrowed to use for the reception. It worked perfectly for the guestbook and gift table. (Thanks Deb!) Danielle and Aaron also had another great place to share photos of their special times together! The kids (that's what we call them! hee-hee) wanted people to share marriage advice as their guestbook. They will be placing the sentiments written into a scrapbook along with their wedding day photos.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Another great Pinterest idea!</td></tr>

<br />
Everyone loved the candy bar that Danielle and Aaron created. They choose their favorite candies from their childhood and today. The old dresser worked great for the "counter". It was defiinitely a hit!<br />

A very special thanks to our family for everything you helped us do for this special day. You all mean the world to us and we couldn't have made it be what it was without you!!<br />
<br />
We were so thrilled with everything and how it turned out. We told the kids that when we built a farm shop that they could use it for a wedding reception. We really never thought they would take us seriously, but how fun for everyone! Watch later this week for "The Wedding" Part 2 - farmyard, wedding chapel?<br />

<br />
It was a mere 10 years ago that I started this project. I fondly call it my "<strike>devil</strike> decade of a project". This project traveled to many retreat locations. Many times not even taken out of the car, but was along "just in case" I ran out of projects! (okay, I hear you laughing now...) It's not that the project was hard, just time consuming (obviously!!) What is this project you ask?.....<br />
<br />
Let's start at the beginning. In 2004, a lovely lady by the name of Lynette Jensen, creator of Thimbleberries, designed <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uuPyNejRqa8/U1kmG6x2DkI/AAAAAAAABNA/lWPhXtW98Mw/s1600/April+24,+2014+Blog+(Quilt)+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uuPyNejRqa8/U1kmG6x2DkI/AAAAAAAABNA/lWPhXtW98Mw/s1600/April+24,+2014+Blog+(Quilt)+008.JPG" height="340" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hometown Christmas by Thimbleberries 2004</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Hometown Christmas patterns and the coordinating fabrics. I was thus enticed to take part in the kits offered by Common Threads Quilt Shop. My intention was to work on Hometown Christmas diligently as I received each portion of the quilt. I did great at first, completing two parts of one of the segments. I was on a roll, yes, I could see this quilt laying on my bed for the holiday season.....visions of sugarplums danced in my head.....(that's an understatement). I'm not sure exactly where I fell off the <strike>bed </strike>wagon dreaming of this fantasy?<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m6V8j-kxXPY/U1kmHtpjE2I/AAAAAAAABNM/5DzyBu1Qm3g/s1600/April+24%252C+2014+Blog+%2528Quilt%2529+011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m6V8j-kxXPY/U1kmHtpjE2I/AAAAAAAABNM/5DzyBu1Qm3g/s1600/April+24%252C+2014+Blog+%2528Quilt%2529+011.JPG" height="640" width="574" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Once completed, this is what the quilt should look like!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
What do I mean by "should" look like? I decided that enough was enough of piecing....so very unlike Lynette, I only put two borders on. I agree that the log type border and the applique is very stunning, but.....it was time to...as my granddaughter would sing... "let it go, let it go!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_gRR7uSHsAI/U1klQ-Tb-VI/AAAAAAAABM4/VX1kdw8Xf1A/s1600/April+24%252C+2014+Blog+%2528Quilt%2529+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_gRR7uSHsAI/U1klQ-Tb-VI/AAAAAAAABM4/VX1kdw8Xf1A/s1600/April+24%252C+2014+Blog+%2528Quilt%2529+007.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So a decade later, I'm most proud to say, that it is DONE in my version and off to my quilter it goes - thanks in advance Holly of <a href="http://www.facebook.com/JustSpoolinAroundLongArmQuilting" target="_blank">Just Spoolin Around Long Arm Quilting</a>.<br />
<br />
AND thanks for picking on me, with me! It was worth the laughs!!<br />

Farmers tend to get a bad rap sometimes on their stewardship practices. Everyone must understand that if we weren't good stewards, we would be putting our livelihood and future at great risk. If we don't do the best job that we can to keep our soils intact and safe we would lose our jobs, basically our life!<br />
<div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OBQnan5ZAbA/U1ZoIzAltUI/AAAAAAAABL8/7V7FnttO3Yk/s1600/April+22,+2014+Blog+001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OBQnan5ZAbA/U1ZoIzAltUI/AAAAAAAABL8/7V7FnttO3Yk/s1600/April+22,+2014+Blog+001.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
This is the scene I have out my kitchen window. It may not look like much to you, but to me it means food on my table! The rich deep earth just yearning for a chance to shine by becoming a nursery to the seeds that will be planted, harvested and than shared with the world. How can that not make me be proud to be a farmer's wife?<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_Ya2nX2TT6M/U1ZoJvt5PrI/AAAAAAAABMI/jyIOBMlRyfo/s1600/April+22%252C+2014+Blog+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_Ya2nX2TT6M/U1ZoJvt5PrI/AAAAAAAABMI/jyIOBMlRyfo/s1600/April+22%252C+2014+Blog+002.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Every year, we are giddy with anticipation of what this land, that we call home, has in store for us. Will it have the ability to produce a good crop? Will the rains come in a timely fashion? Will the temperature be just right? Farmers play a chance of risk every time they set out to start a new year and we are ready for the challenge.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p4hPUa-LJB0/U1ZoFzN7FqI/AAAAAAAABL4/npfLx4dCyOU/s1600/April+22%252C+2014+Blog+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p4hPUa-LJB0/U1ZoFzN7FqI/AAAAAAAABL4/npfLx4dCyOU/s1600/April+22%252C+2014+Blog+004.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The seed is ready too! If I could hear them speaking, I think they are saying..."pick me...me first!"</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As farmers start this 2014 crop year, I pray that all will be safe and that their hard work will be rewarded with a good year!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy Earth Day!</div>

and just simply....being me! I have sorely neglected my responsibility of keeping up with my blogging, but I'm making no excuses or apologizes. After many years of working away from the farm and my home and owning a business, I realized that I needed some time to reflect on what my "imagined life" has turned into and what it means to me. What I have come to realize, is that I'm somewhat of a "retiree" in the fact that I can do things when I want for the most part. I'm thrilled beyond words to know that I am available to assist on the farm when needed and have the ability to craft to my heart's content. It will be my pleasure in the days, weeks, month and hopefully years ahead to share all that warm's my heart in </div>

We all know or have someone in our lives that has been affected by cancer and it would be my privilege to have you join a wonderful new program sponsored through Stampin' Up and with our donations <a href="http://www.cancer.org/fight/index" target="_blank">"Finish the Fight"</a>! My goal is that we have 225+ join our "Cards for a Cure" campaign to raise $5000+ HOW SWEET THAT WOULD BE!!! Spread the word, share with your friends and family....as my three year old granddaughter would say "I got this" - how about "We got this!!" Let's do it! <b> <i>How you ask?</i></b><br />
<br />
Many people ask me how life is without the quilt
shop. My answer is that although I don’t
miss the business side, I do miss the people very much! Another thing I miss, is the opportunity to
create events where we could help organizations raise awareness and monetary
donations for their causes. As I
pondered how I could keep the creative side of me happy along with the promise
to “give back”, I realized that I had that same opportunity right in front of
me with a home business that I was using only to benefit myself. Along with my love of quilting, I also
possess a passion for paper crafting!<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
As a Stampin’ Up demonstrator, I could “share” (instead
of keeping for me) all the fun things that they have to offer with their great
products. I was having a super time
playing with the paper, stamps and embellishments creating my own kits when the
company came out with this awesome monthly program called <a href="https://mypaperpumpkin.com/en/" target="_blank">"Paper Pumpkin"</a>. It allows me to fulfill my creative needs with
a pre-designed packet of goodies that takes minutes to put together!! Yippee!!
(You all know how much I LOVE kits!!)</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Now I know you’re asking where does this “share” part
come in, well…….in my “Cards for a Cure” campaign, for every person that joins
me in the Paper Pumpkin monthly program, I will donate the proceeds to our <a href="http://relay.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY14MW?fr_id=59073&pg=entry&__utma=54177207.1358480513.1393977662.1393977662.13942" target="_blank">Relay for Life American Cancer Society</a> team. Commit to 3 months (April,
May and June) at the monthly cost of $19.95 plus $1.37 tax (shipping
included). You will be paying via a
credit card directly to Stampin’ Up and $21.32 will be charged upon sign up and
in the next two months. Sign up by March
31st to receive a special bonus gift with your first Paper Pumpkin arrival! </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
At the end of June, I
will contact you to see if you wish to continue with the Paper Pumpkin kit. I will in turn continue to donate to our
“Cards for a Cure” in your name each month.
If you decide that you wish to discontinue the Paper Pumpkin kit, we’ll
just simply take you off the program!
You can rejoin at anytime in the future if you choose to do so and your
name will be added back into to our “Cards for a Cure” donation list!<br />
<br />
And now you are are intrigued and asking "How do I sign-up" - very simply....go <a href="https://mypaperpumpkin.com/en/" target="_blank">HERE</a> and click on subscribe, complete the required information. Click on "I already have a demonstrator"** and type in my information...Julie Satterlie, 23422 Sunny Side Drive NW, Evansville, MN 56326 and my name will pop up on a screen on the right. Click on "Select" and you will be enrolled in a very quick, easy and fun crafting time AND you will have donated to "Cards for a Cure" <u>**this fundraising opportunity is only sponsored by me! IF you have a Stampin' Up demonstrator that you work with already - no problem - PLEASE sign up for Paper Pumpkin under them. Donations won't be made to my "Cards for a Cure" BUT you will be involved in a great program that you will enjoy and they will be pleased to have you sharing the crafting bug with them too! </u><br />
<br />
I appreciate your time in visiting this blog and sharing the vision to "Finish the Fight"!!<br />

It has been quite awhile since we've shared anything and that is totally my fault. A big annoyance for me is when someone or someone's have a blog or website and they don't post on a regular basis. I shouldn't say it's an annoyance really, it's more like..."where are you?" I follow many bloggers from all walks of life and when I don't see a new story for a long time I wonder and sometimes even worry about what has happened. So now I have turned into one of those that I wonder myself "where am I" Well, don't worry we are still here and we are working on a new concept of how to keep things fresh and interesting and to make sure that we are telling you about what we find intriguing in our everyday lives and what makes us tick, so to speak.<br />
<br />
On this beautiful December morning here in Minnesota, we have received our first measurable snow fall, okay so it's only 1/2 inch but that is a measurement on a ruler - right? <br />

We worked on decorating our home this past weekend. My husband even helped. Now that may seem like a "so", but for those of you who know my hubby, well, that's just say, he's been called Scrooge or the Grinch. I know that kid in him has that Christmas magic and every once in awhile it comes out and surprises even me!<br />

On Thanksgiving afternoon, my daughter, granddaughter, hubby and myself went out to the slough to get some evergreen boughs and red willow and birch branches. The slough?, well it should have been the woods, but my hubby had already trimmed trees in our yard and put them out by the slough near our farm. So back in the pickup they went to be used for decorations.....best part, he never said a word......you know why don't you......daughter and granddaughter were along on the idea!!! (I've decided that if I want something done that he would think was kinda crazy, I'll just have them ask him! - works everytime! HAHA!) Holly actually had the thought to use these items for outdoor decorating and I just jumped on her band wagon to make one too. I saw one at a store that I really wanted, but......make my own.....hmmmm...<br />

It was bittersweet as we enjoyed each other's company knowing that this would probably be the last time many of us would be together again. The retreat has been going on for 18 years. We appreciate everyone who has attended a Common Threads retreat over those many years. <br />

Fellowship even followed us into our mealtimes, as we visited there too!<br />
<br />
It was an awesome weekend. One we will cherish for all time. Thanks again everyone - we'll miss you!Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10692825197358610734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265733525736539693.post-76536151767619806892013-10-29T10:36:00.000-05:002013-10-29T10:36:25.729-05:00Back to traditions!It's a wintery morning here on the farm and it would be quite beautiful if it weren't for the fact that we still have many acres of corn to harvest before winter really gets here. Hopefully this little dusting of snow is it until we're done! (just putting my order in!!)<br />
<br />
Over the weekend, we had a blast at our annual, which has turned into our tradition.....pumpkin carving and watching the Disney Halloween classic "Hocus Pocus" (my personal favorite!). The whole event is quite fun as we carve some pretty cool looking pumpkins, decorate sugar cookies, do a craft or two, eat yummy soups and finish the evening off with the movie!. Probably the best part for me, is that this has become a tradition in our family. This being our third year, we believe constitutes tradition. How many of you have a similar event or some type of tradition that can be passed down from generation to generation? It's sad to think that many of the traditions in the whole world have been lost. It is time to reclaim that and all families unite and if not bring back an old tradition, create a new one! That is your mission. With the holidays right around the corner, I'm sure there are many traditions that families still carry on, So hands up high, with a whoop-whoop - traditions here we come!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B6qIZsvrV_A/Um_O_UyNzcI/AAAAAAAABHg/G1EIybWBQsw/s1600/trip+pumpkin+carving+022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B6qIZsvrV_A/Um_O_UyNzcI/AAAAAAAABHg/G1EIybWBQsw/s640/trip+pumpkin+carving+022.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The pumpkins are all ready for the carving event to begin. There are no awards or anything like that, just the thrill of making art out of a pumpkin!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h4PH9WPdQFk/Um_O_VVtg8I/AAAAAAAABHo/wVgjPIvR9Vg/s1600/trip+pumpkin+carving+025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h4PH9WPdQFk/Um_O_VVtg8I/AAAAAAAABHo/wVgjPIvR9Vg/s640/trip+pumpkin+carving+025.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As you can see, the carvers are working their magic on the pumpkins with serious determination - okay not too serious!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dqXE8_t4gyc/Um_O7u9FB0I/AAAAAAAABHY/HhEYLjgmnEM/s1600/trip+pumpkin+carving+033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dqXE8_t4gyc/Um_O7u9FB0I/AAAAAAAABHY/HhEYLjgmnEM/s640/trip+pumpkin+carving+033.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Even though our granddaughter had her own pumpkin to decorate, she was more interested in eating the frosting off her newly decorated cookie.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I_t_R3grqMk/Um_PT_qINRI/AAAAAAAABH8/JWf4asslnc4/s1600/trip+pumpkin+carving+035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I_t_R3grqMk/Um_PT_qINRI/AAAAAAAABH8/JWf4asslnc4/s640/trip+pumpkin+carving+035.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This year's craft was an "after Halloween" clearance item from last year. My daughter LOVES to shop the clearance aisle after every holiday and I must admit she scores some pretty good deals.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pXvBdMjaLLg/Um_PU-UjbjI/AAAAAAAABIA/KmtpnbksbE8/s1600/trip+pumpkin+carving+037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pXvBdMjaLLg/Um_PU-UjbjI/AAAAAAAABIA/KmtpnbksbE8/s640/trip+pumpkin+carving+037.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Before we could settle down to watch the movie, we collected goodies to bring home to share. <a href="http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2013/09/halloween-bark/" target="_blank">Halloween Bark</a> was a new recipe I just had to try and it was DE...licious, thanks Ree from Pioneer Woman! Holly's famous sugar cookies (recipe to follow) and a fun spin on cupcakes, recipe courtesy of <a href="http://www.sixsistersstuff.com/2013/10/candy-corn-cupcakes-recipe.html" target="_blank">Six Sisters Stuff</a>. Thanks ladies! The cute felted magnet owls (Target 2012) was the craft that everyone created.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We anxiously awaited for the darkness, so we could light our newly decorated pumpkins.....ahhhhh....ooohhh......so spooky and really cool!<br />
<br />
Thanks Allie, Danielle, Holly, Katie and Parker for making tradition!<br />
<br />
<i>-Happy Halloween and hugs from Julie-</i><br />

Over the weekend, we had guest, Dave, stay at our home and help us with harvest. Wait - that's how we treat our guests.....we make them work?!? Actually, Dave is a guest, but more than that, he is our cousin and we LOVE when he comes to help us. He's been helping on the farm since he was just a kid. He grew up in the city, but his heart is in the country. Now what does all this Dave talk have to do with food. <br />

It's great to have guests, cousins, farm help come and stay because I get to cook. Okay, I cook all the time, but when guests come, I get to cook for more than two people. It's not easy cooking for two people because I'm used to cooking for harvest crews - you guessed it - we eat a lot of leftovers. It's so awesome when I can cook for guests because number one - they tell you they appreciate it (not that my dear hubby doesn't - it's just...yeah) and not that I need the appreciation, but darn it feels good! Number two - more than two people, no leftovers. <br />
<br />
Stepping out of my comfort food zone, I'm out to try new recipes. This one is absolutely fabulous and I had to share. It is not my creation, but that of quilting/stitchery friend, Karen Perry. Guest/cousin/farm help Dave even wanted the recipe. Whoa - that's way cool, so he's guest/cousin/ farm help/chef!<br />
<br />
I'm sending you to Karen's blog post for the recipe and her great decorating style. I believe she's my new idol!<br />

Spread a tbsp of the cheese mixture on each biscuit within 1/2 inch of the edge. Bake at 400 for 10 - 13 minutes. Serve. These would be great with soups, stews or salads. I haven't been following my own schedule for productivity with this blog, quilting, cleaning, you name it. My concerns were heartfelt with my doctor yesterday as she shared with me that I was finally (hopefully) in the "real" stage of...you guessed it - menopause. You see I've been in the "stage" for about three years now and just when I think - yup - Done! Not! - start again - Grrrrrr!<br />
<br />
My lack of concentration, feeling more warm than usual, sluggish and according to my husband, moody - what? has led me to want to just curl up on the couch. This morning I decided enough is enough - women go through this everyday, every year, I'm not alone....so it's time to get back in the groove.<br />
<br />
We finished our soybean harvest at 4 am a few days ago. The rains came again (trying to be positive - we need moisture in the ground for next year), just hard to have rain during harvest time. We started picking corn and it's quite muddy, but going well. We hope the major snow doesn't come too early or maybe, just maybe, we'll get an Indian summer?!? One could only hope! <br />

For the most part, everyone is working on a different type of stitchery project, whether it be wool, embroidery, applique, cross stitch, hardanger or sewing on quilt bindings, all hands are busy!<br />

We talk, laugh, cry, eat, and share our lives with each other. Everyone has a different story to tell, but our common story is that we share a love of crafting and best of all, friendship. <br />

P.S. Thanks Carol for letting us "hang out" at your house!Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10692825197358610734noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265733525736539693.post-27580284619638329212013-10-12T15:54:00.000-05:002013-10-12T15:54:50.122-05:00Boring life?Recently, someone asked me "how's life?" and I replied by saying "My life is kind of boring, and I like it that way!" By boring, meaning that nothing challenging or unexpected is going on and that is good! So, boring has also led to that fact that I don't think I do anything exciting or magical on a daily basis so what is there to blog about......and I want to blog about my life and my passions not someone else's.......so unfortunately with my boring life I had nothing to say last week....BUT I had a revelation, if I turn my "boring life" into a story well than, we have a best seller! (probably not!) Isn't that what blogging is all about - telling about your life, interests, passions and yes - even "boring" moments in a journal, diary type, story? <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Have you ever ridden in a taxi cab in Mexico? The driver goes, well, let's use the phrase "like a bat out of h _ _ _", up over the curb, going through a stop sign (he said "I'll stop two times tomorrow") and screeches to a halt in front of the border crossing where we had parked our car and walked into the city (why didn't we walk back?!?). Well, this is how I felt in my responsibility this past week as the "taxi" driver delivering guys from truck to truck, field to field. Now, I didn't drive over curbs, but over hard packed tractor ruts. I didn't blow through stop signs, but almost blew a tire and I didn't intentionally screech to a halt, but that happens when you let your foot off the shift pedal when driving a stick shift vehicle, when in gear! Okay, life, not so boring......</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Like my ride, I mean taxi...and yes, those are flames on the side!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br /></div>
<div>
When my husband would ask me "what day is it today?" I'd give him that look that said "how can you not know what day it is?" This last week, I asked myself, "what day is it?" You see, to a farmer, it doesn't matter what day it is, the work needs to get done. The sun comes up, sun goes down, job gets done.....start over. Whether it's Tuesday or Sunday or Thursday - no matter, the world needs food! Once again, life, not so boring....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, if someone asks me "how's life and whatcha been up too?" I'm going to say "It's GREAT and I've been providing transportation to people who feed the world" How's that for "boring"? Hmmmm....I'm thinking a pay raise!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Living a boring life...and lovin' it!</div>

I've been working on a quilt pattern for the studio for awhile and a break from sewing was in order. (Did I just say that....."a break from sewing"?....in my quilt shop owner days, I would have LOVED to have said that - what I usually said was "can I please sew now?"...wow, what a change!) So.....out with the crafts!<br />

Yesterday, I invited my favorite people....my girls.....to a "creative day" at my house. I set up three different projects that we worked on. A "congrats" card and two different Halloween treat packages. We had a blast, even Danielle, who admits that she's not much of a crafting person. She showed us.... as she was the first one to post our crafting day on Facebook! (I think she's a bit hooked into the crafting scene now - just don't tell her, it will be our secret..shhhh)</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Treats in the packages - even stamped the tissue paper!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
One very important thing to remember when crafting with family, is that you include ALL family - that means, in our case, our 2 3/4 year old granddaughter. She wanted to "I do too"! I set up a work spot for her with her own paper, stamps and ink. (You can use old paper, construction type, old/used stamp sets and really, what's an ink pad cost when you get a very happy, little girl - it's priceless.)<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">"Not sad anymore, she just wanted to share the ink pad with her Mom!"</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The crafting adventure was not only a time to have fun creating some very useful items, but the time we shared together was above all else, the best part of the day! In fact, when hubby/dad/grandpa came in to join us for lunch, he said "ahhh, lunch with all my girls", who says that isn't more priceless!!<br />
<br />
Having fun inside on this rainy day...<br />

One of the favorite foods on our harvest journey was BBQ ribs. The guys would jump out of their combines and literally run to the table (back of suburban tailgate). It always made me smile when I would bring meals to the field and see them get so excited for food - my food!<br />
<br />
This BBQ rib recipe is about as simple as it can get. The ribs I like the best are pork- country style. They are flavorful and meaty, so a few go a long way. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cIb6JDWLorw/Ukoua96DbPI/AAAAAAAABCk/2nu8GKH9sWk/s1600/BBQ+ribs+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cIb6JDWLorw/Ukoua96DbPI/AAAAAAAABCk/2nu8GKH9sWk/s640/BBQ+ribs+002.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I prefer to grill my ribs first before putting them in the oven to bake. You can also brown them in a pan on your stove. By grilling or browning, the meat gets sealed so it becomes more tender. Taking your favorite BBQ seasoning, I use different combinations, use what your family likes the best, rub the seasoning on all sides of the ribs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5coJImckko8/UkouYzQGiPI/AAAAAAAABCY/MolypRYtgOQ/s1600/BBQ+ribs+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5coJImckko8/UkouYzQGiPI/AAAAAAAABCY/MolypRYtgOQ/s640/BBQ+ribs+005.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Place on grill or in pan and brown on all sides as well. (this process only takes a few minutes, so be watchful!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5g4uHeVL1kE/UkoubId47fI/AAAAAAAABCo/MNCfNIAT1UM/s1600/BBQ+ribs+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5g4uHeVL1kE/UkoubId47fI/AAAAAAAABCo/MNCfNIAT1UM/s640/BBQ+ribs+008.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Take the ribs off the grill or out of the pan and place in a greased roasting pan. Grab a bottle of your family's favorite BBQ sauce - once again, we use different kinds, pour entire bottle over the ribs making sure to cover them with the sauce. Before disposing of the BBQ sauce bottle, pour drinking water into the bottle, filling to approximately half full, shake to release any excess sauce and pour the remainder of the sauce/water over the ribs. This method gives the ribs some extra liquid without adding just plain water and cleans out your bottle for recycling!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2mHCS7plq68/UkounHUhDWI/AAAAAAAABC4/8N1_KQR9QN8/s1600/BBQ+ribs+009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2mHCS7plq68/UkounHUhDWI/AAAAAAAABC4/8N1_KQR9QN8/s640/BBQ+ribs+009.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
With temperature at 325 degrees, place covered roasting pan in oven and bake for 2-3 hours. You can also place the ribs in a crock pot and cook on low for 8-10 hours.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3w5amBGZKlE/Ukoum_tOrqI/AAAAAAAABC0/p5xvaBpuoTc/s1600/BBQ+ribs+014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3w5amBGZKlE/Ukoum_tOrqI/AAAAAAAABC0/p5xvaBpuoTc/s640/BBQ+ribs+014.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I promise the meat will fall off the bone, they are that good!<br />
<br />
Off to feed a harvest guy...<br />

<u>BBQ Ribs - Country Style Recipe</u><br />
<u><a href="https://sites.google.com/site/kaellystudio/bbq-ribs---country-style" target="_blank">Click here for printable recipe</a></u><br />
<u><br /></u>
1 package of pork - country style ribs<br />
Sprinkle of your favorite seasoning salt to rub into ribs on both sides<br />
1 bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce<br />
Water - enough to fill half of your BBQ sauce bottle<br />
<br />
Rub seasoning salt into ribs on all sides. Place ribs onto grill or in pan on stove top. Brown all sides of the ribs. Place browned ribs into greased roasting pan, pour entire bottle of BBQ sauce over ribs, add water to empty BBQ sauce bottle and shake to release excess sauce, pour this over the ribs to provide extra liquid for the ribs to cook in. Cover and put into 325 degree oven for approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until rib meat falls off the bone. (Ribs can also be placed in a crock pot and cooked on low for 8-10 hours).<br />

It's that "nesting" we all get before the winter settles in. I remember quite vividly, my mother faithfully organizing and cleaning our family home both in the fall and spring. I have to honestly say that I have not been that faithful to my cleaning regiment. Oh, I do all that "extra" cleaning, such as washing windows, walls, curtains, etc. BUT I don't do it on a regular basis, so I'm quite sure that it's time!<br />
<br />
The problem that I'm having with this whole "fall/spring" cleaning adventure, is that I don't want to dedicate a whole week to just clean, clean, clean. (Hey, I like a clean house, but really!) I would like to not have to worry about "did I clean this fall" or "did I clean this spring". Now, before you ask me "do you ever clean?", The answer is yes, I do basic cleaning every week around the house. My house is pretty much "company ready" at most times - just don't look too close, or under the beds or put your white gloves on and test me - I promise you will be sorry. So, how do I challenge myself to "get it done"!<br />
<br />
Several months ago, I stumbled onto <a href="http://flylady.net/" target="_blank">Fly Lady</a>. I have to say, that their idea of "keeping up" was quite intriguing, but part of their plan is for people who are in major need of controlling their chaos of dis-organization. That, I must proudly say, I don't have. I do like to keep things neat and tidy and I have a neat freak hubby, so that part is easy for me. The part that I need in their plan is to stay on schedule and never have to worry about having a major cleaning marathon.<br />
<br />
Today, was the day to find Fly Lady again and start to follow their plan. Their mission is to set zones in your home and to follow a different zone each week. If you've checked out their site <a href="http://flylady.net/" target="_blank">HERE</a> already, which you should do now if you haven't yet, you'll understand their theory. That theory being - if you stay on track, follow the zones, do your daily routines, you will always have a clean home. There will not be a "fall/spring" cleaning week or weeks in your life ever again. Obviously, you will be tweaking the zones and daily schedules to fit your lifestyle. For instance, their errand day is Thursday, mine is Wednesday.<br />
<br />
This week's zone is "Living Room/Family Room/Den. Since I only have a living room, it will be a quicker chore for me to handle. I have chosen the 1st and 3rd full Monday's, the 2nd and 4th half-day Monday's and the 2nd and 4th half-day Wednesday's to accomplish my cleaning routine. When I mean full days, it may be only 4-5 hours and my half days may be only 1-2 hours. So it's not like I'm cleaning 24 hours a day. For me, following this type of schedule works. Will it consume my life? No, if I get off a day or two or maybe even a week - I can just start again wherever the zone is at that time. The zones are repeated each month so I too will have that sparkling clean home!<br />
<br />
If you have a favorite way to organize your home or an awesome cleaning schedule that keeps you on track, let us know. We'd love to share your organizational skills and ideas.<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading - off to enjoy my "clean" home or at least my living room!<br />

This is the event of the year for a crop farmer - HARVEST! All your hopes come to light as you start the harvesting process and count your blessings that there is a crop to combine and you can be a part of feeding the world!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-37xKQUAR4ro/Ukbjp0X0IXI/AAAAAAAABBE/Yfs1-cZSL-g/s1600/Harvest2013+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-37xKQUAR4ro/Ukbjp0X0IXI/AAAAAAAABBE/Yfs1-cZSL-g/s640/Harvest2013+002.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As we've been following the crop growth throughout the last few months, it's noted that we started out with good moisture and mild temps. From the 4th of July through the first part of August, we received very trace amounts of rain and the temps were HOT! This is where a farmer knows that he is truly the caretaker of God's land and puts it all in His hands.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-763pL8w8Zgg/Ukbjp3TPtNI/AAAAAAAABBI/wJuug-lBxmo/s1600/Harvest2013+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-763pL8w8Zgg/Ukbjp3TPtNI/AAAAAAAABBI/wJuug-lBxmo/s640/Harvest2013+006.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Since we've only harvested three fields, we're not completely sure what the average overall yield will be, but we know it's not a bin buster - darn!?! The guys just say "it's okay". When we're done with all the fields, bins measured and elevator bushel tickets added, I'll know what "okay" is and how much we have to sell. This is the risk part of our business. Our crop yield is an unknown, so we are careful to manage our risks by our input costs and our marketing skills (which we work on daily!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Am_Lv4Ee_SE/UkbjvN_WfHI/AAAAAAAABBQ/CC5C30-efFo/s1600/Harvest2013+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Am_Lv4Ee_SE/UkbjvN_WfHI/AAAAAAAABBQ/CC5C30-efFo/s640/Harvest2013+003.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The soybean plants don't look so great when it's time to harvest. When our niece was old enough to drive an ATV, she would drive around and around their farm. One day she ventured out into the soybean field next to their house. When her Dad asked her "why were you driving around in the bean field?" , she just simply replied, "it's okay Dad, they're dead anyway!" We still laugh about that every harvest, because she was right, they do look dead. (You're right, we won't let her forget that!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rkRKd9dzE6I/UkbkTM6VL-I/AAAAAAAABCA/SY2Aj_rudr8/s1600/Harvest2013+018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rkRKd9dzE6I/UkbkTM6VL-I/AAAAAAAABCA/SY2Aj_rudr8/s320/Harvest2013+018.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Driving a combine these days is supposed to be easier with all the new technology, but seriously, a joystick! and computer screen! It's no wonder that the younger age can handle things a whole lot better, they are used to playing video games and being in front of a computer. Yes, I'm putting an age on us, but we are learning and isn't that suppose to keep you young - well, we should be really young with all the learning we're doing. HA-HA! It is neat though, the crazy things even make noises like computer games! Geez!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mTeO_xcJwPs/UkbkO25qMWI/AAAAAAAABB4/96MFVpwAFOw/s1600/Harvest2013+017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mTeO_xcJwPs/UkbkO25qMWI/AAAAAAAABB4/96MFVpwAFOw/s640/Harvest2013+017.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Obviously, my learned hubby has mastered the computer and joystick because the beans are going in the hopper....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RPph3gz616E/UkbkXhIROfI/AAAAAAAABCI/3Z64TpJEbrY/s1600/Harvest2013+021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RPph3gz616E/UkbkXhIROfI/AAAAAAAABCI/3Z64TpJEbrY/s640/Harvest2013+021.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
and into the auger....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--7YdQpMr3Cg/Ukbj3fBbnRI/AAAAAAAABBg/B4gy31txvYY/s1600/Harvest2013+011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--7YdQpMr3Cg/Ukbj3fBbnRI/AAAAAAAABBg/B4gy31txvYY/s640/Harvest2013+011.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
and into the grain cart. Job well done!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oj8IrD3c2Yg/UkbkCCV8IFI/AAAAAAAABBo/yqYwwYAUduU/s1600/Harvest2013+013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oj8IrD3c2Yg/UkbkCCV8IFI/AAAAAAAABBo/yqYwwYAUduU/s640/Harvest2013+013.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Still lovin' farming!!<br />
<i>-Julie-</i>Juliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10692825197358610734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265733525736539693.post-3994550355475447912013-09-26T15:39:00.000-05:002013-09-28T09:36:34.061-05:00A thrifty project!What is the definition of "thrifty". The Webster dictionary's version is: to imply industry and clever management of one's money or resources, usually so as to result in some savings. OUR idea of "thrifty" sort of follows that as in the clever way we use something that we were maybe going to throw out and now we're saving to use in a different way - like the new craze of re-purposing. <br />
<br />
In cleaning up the toy room, I accidentally pushed a scrabble game off the shelf and (you got it) lettered tiles were everywhere. We never use this scrabble board game anymore because we have the modern version of the scrabble board that rotates. So, the light bulb, that makes an appearance above my head from time to time, went off and the creative juices started flowing. (yup, this is where I quit cleaning and started crafting......again!) Instead of throwing away this old game......<br />
<br />
I had remembered a cute scrabble tile/tray picture frame in a magazine from awhile back and thought "I can do that! So, gathering up the pieces, I set out to spell words that I would want to use with some pictures.<br />
<br />
<u>Items to gather to create the Scrabble tile/tray picture frame are:</u><br />
<br />
Scrabble tiles<br />
Scrabble tile tray<br />
E6000 glue<br />
(2) Popsicle sticks (only 1 in photo)<br />
Magnets (sorry not in the photo)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KmHu3WLimpI/UkSYhrQ0HvI/AAAAAAAAA_k/_Bo4ezg2Di8/s1600/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KmHu3WLimpI/UkSYhrQ0HvI/AAAAAAAAA_k/_Bo4ezg2Di8/s640/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+005.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Love and Family are two important words in my life, so I laid out the letters to spell those words first. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I sanded down the edges of the letter tiles where they would be glued together to form the words. (It is not necessary to sand down the beginning or ending of the word). I found an emery board file in my closet, hunted out the E6000 glue from the basement storage room, a Popsicle stick (ate the Popsicle to get the stick - no, not really, I had some, but a person sure could do that!) and started creating.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-USyCxKEb5EI/UkSYxqp0qSI/AAAAAAAAA_4/FfgwKBWjTkQ/s1600/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-USyCxKEb5EI/UkSYxqp0qSI/AAAAAAAAA_4/FfgwKBWjTkQ/s640/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+009.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Lay out your letters, with sanded edges (where the glue will be) and glue together. I would do two letters together at a time, dry for a few minutes and than glue the whole word together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3Yh5eYl7kl8/UkSYx85KEzI/AAAAAAAAA_8/u-MghXbQi4E/s1600/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3Yh5eYl7kl8/UkSYx85KEzI/AAAAAAAAA_8/u-MghXbQi4E/s640/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+010.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I took two Popsicle sticks (yep, you'll have to eat two!) and placing the letters between the sticks, I could position them straight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tYEVkjfUi3E/UkSY79CL1kI/AAAAAAAABAI/BXSH_GcNsDg/s1600/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="538" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tYEVkjfUi3E/UkSY79CL1kI/AAAAAAAABAI/BXSH_GcNsDg/s640/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+017.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Let the newly formed word set for 30 minutes or until completely dry. NOTE: If glue gets pushed out between the letters, take the Popsicle stick and gently wipe the glue off. Once the glue is dry, you can very lightly sand any glue residue off. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mxaQg30yWlE/UkSY_bYwAwI/AAAAAAAABAQ/KGklrwF2jXY/s1600/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="486" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mxaQg30yWlE/UkSY_bYwAwI/AAAAAAAABAQ/KGklrwF2jXY/s640/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+024.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And Ta-Dah you have a great, fun picture frame. I DID NOT glue the word to the scrabble tray because the picture would not fit right. Also, by just placing the glued together word in front of the picture, you can change it out very easily. Also, you could paint the tiles and tray to match any decor you have. I prefer to leave it the original way, it seems more "re-purposed" or "thrifty" that way!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DmjYhq_anTE/UkSZM50dSgI/AAAAAAAABAo/zRAj7EnjWPc/s1600/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+031.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DmjYhq_anTE/UkSZM50dSgI/AAAAAAAABAo/zRAj7EnjWPc/s640/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+031.JPG" width="598" /></a></div>
<br />
While I was deep in craft mode, from the corner of my eye, I spied two pictures on my refrigerator, one of my hubby with our granddaughter and one with me and the sweetest, most adorable, the cutest one (yeahhh-Grandma). Another light bulb moment and I thought "magnets". Back to the basement store room to find magnets that I was pretty sure I had and glued them on to the back of my other two important words "Grandpa" and "Grandma" and newbies now adorn my refrigerator.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lpqC3gf2CFA/UkSZOgfpJsI/AAAAAAAABAw/4IUpmLY-0E8/s1600/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lpqC3gf2CFA/UkSZOgfpJsI/AAAAAAAABAw/4IUpmLY-0E8/s640/Scrabble+tile+photo+frame+034.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Have fun creating any type of scrabble tile project that you find, this one or several others from the Internet or invent your own - the possibilities are endless in your "light bulb" head! P.S. Cost of the project for me - FREE and PRICELESS!<br />

First of all, HE NOTICED!! and second of all, I hadn't had fun making "pretty things" in the yard for many years. Oh, it wasn't that I didn't decorate, it's just that I didn't decorate here, at my home/farm. The quilt shop was always dressed in seasonal fashion and since that's where I seemed to spend the majority of my time, I never decorated at home. I am not a professional decorator by even the definition of the occupation, but I do enjoy putting things together and making my yard look a bit like I care!<br />

The fun part was hunting for items that I already owned to be a part of my design. The wrought witch was found hiding out in our old chicken coop and was glad to see daylight! The weathered green bench came from a neighbor's auction sale. The sun faded little quilt was headed for the trash, but was saved to spend it's time outside instead of inside and remember the baby ladder (purchased at the fun shop in Lindstrom, MN that I shared with you), it looks pretty good in my rock corner, fashioned with several fall items. The crazy tent in the background is our "redneck" way of having a gazebo. Since, we try to sit outside once in awhile here in Minnesota, it becomes nearly impossible with the mosquitoes, so we bought a screen tent and placed it on top of our deck. Actually, it is a clever solution to being able to sit outside without spending a ton of money, but this is the second one we've had and I think it's time to build a real gazebo!<br />

My front door is never used, in fact if you entered my home that way, you would be inside a room I use as a closet. On the outside, it always looks so forlorn and in need of something, so my harvest sign works just right next to a beautiful arrangement from Colorful Seasons (website to be coming soon) that I just had to have.<br />
<br />
You may be laughing at my silly designs and decorating, but it sure is fun to look outside or walk around the yard and see that yes, someone does care! Even my husband- go figure!<br />
<br />
Enjoying another beautiful day here on the farm!<br />
